SAMAHAN NG MANGGAGAWA SA BALATASAN (SAMASABALATASAN)
The Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Balatasan (SAMASABALATASAN) is an association composed of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) who are either workers, farmers, and fisherfolks of Brgy. Balatasan, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro. The Association was organized on year 2005 with the goal of formulating, implementing and coordinating activities, programs and projects geared towards the development of Balatasan Laborers. It was registered with the Department of Labor and Employment under registration number 005-034 on June 30, 2005 as a workers’ association.
With the help of Department of Agrarian Reform, the association was invigorated and re-organized on 2007; it started with seventeen (17) pioneering members with a generated paid-up capital of Php 8,000.00. The Association became better and active after the training on seaweed production and processing as provided by DAR & ATI-FTC MIMAROPA on CY 2008. Since then, the association continues to grow bigger with the goal in mind of helping in the development of the welfare of Balatasan Laborers by providing and generating jobs not only for the members, but also for the Community.
At present, there were 91 members with a total capital build-up of P186, 868.75 and currently the only association in Oriental Mindoro that manufactures different Seaweed Products. Among the products of SAMASABALATASAN are; Seaweed Canton, Seaweed Cup noodles with Malunggay, Seaweed Mami with malunggay, Seaweed Shing-a-ling and Seaweed Pickles as their Food products. Aside from these, they also have non-food products such as Seaweed Soap with five (5) variants, Seaweed Shampoo Bar and Seaweed liquid Shampoo with malunggay. Furthermore, the association has a purified water refilling station that provides not only the clean potable water for the processing of Seaweed products but also affordable purified and safe water which benefits the whole community.
SAMASABALATASAN is being assisted by the both government agencies and non-government organizations. The agencies helping the association are; DOST, DOLE, DTI, DAR, ATI-FTC MIMAROPA, DA-BAR, DA-BFAR, PLGU-Oriental Mindoro, LGU-Bulalacao and PAKISAMA.
